The Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District holds both a spring native plant sale every other year and a fall native tree sale as fundraisers for our educational programs. We have been purchasing plants through two of the nursery's listed on the Grow Indiana Native Buy Native directory. We have also been working with our local Parks Department's greenhouse as well for some native plants that we are having difficulty finding.
Woody Warehouse Nursery (WHOLESALE, RETAIL)
Ninety-five percent of the trees we grow are from seed collected by hand from native tree stands in our region. This ensures consistent adaptability and growth of the tree for decades beyond our lifetime. We propagate this seed in our greenhouses and outdoor production areas until the tree or shrub reaches the desired size and health for shipment to our customers.
Vallonia State Nursery
98% native plant material (all except Norway spruce are native). Product includes trees & shrubs, available to Indiana landowners only. Genotypes local to Indiana and Midwest. Fax: 812-358-9033
US Perennials
Mail order nursery with possibility of local pick ups in Bloomington. We grow Indiana native wildflowers, but also perennials native to other parts of USA and some beneficial non-invasive introduced perennials (groundcovers, pollinator friendly or good garden performers). Wild species, nativars, grasses, ferns and spring ephemerals. Our goal is to bring more flowers and valuable plants into private gardens, increase the ecological value of our yards and educate.
