Invasives Removal at Cold Spring School
Central Chapter’s Invasives Swat Team is planning a volunteer day to remove invasives at Cold Spring School, the environmental magnet of Indianapolis Public Schools. Volunteers will meet at Cold Spring School on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 9:00, and work until about 12:00. This is a follow-up to invasives removal work done on the property by other groups this spring. Focus of the efforts will be mainly on bush honeysuckle. There may also be some planting of native plants in areas that were part of the earlier invasive removal efforts. It’s a great opportunity to get some exercise, enjoy good company, and help nature at the same time.
The school is located at 3650 Cold Spring Road, just south of 38th Street and north of Marian University. The school site includes extensive wooded areas that are being restored to enhance outdoor education efforts for the school. Anyone wanting to learn more about some of these efforts, or other ways in which they can help, can go to the web site of Friends of Cold Spring School, www.friendsofcoldspringschool.org.
Anyone interested in helping with this effort, or just wanting to be notified directly about future efforts should contact Tom Hohman at pastpres@inpaws.org.
