The Scavenger Hunt Is On for Great Diagnostic Plant Pix!
Indiana University Herbarium has big plans to include photos of every Indiana native plant among its digital collection of herbarium specimens—not just any old photos, but quality diagnostic photos that clearly show plant features and structures. You can help!
Here’s the drill: The herbarium website lists the plants they wish you to photograph and when they’re likely to be in bloom. The lists are broken out by ecologic regions, e.g., Tipton Till Plain, Northern Lakes, Grand Prairie, Southern Bottomlands, etc. You can pick an area near you and go hunting for these rare and precious native plants. The IU website includes how-to tips on plant photography, species information to help you locate them, and instructions for submitting photographs.
Intrigued? Grab your camera and join fellow native plant enthusiasts for a photographic scavenger hunt!
