Collaborating to conserve Indiana’s rare plants and their natural habitats.

The Indiana Plant Conservation Alliance (INPCA) was created in 2020 to conserve rare plants in Indiana.

INPCA is a partnership of organizations and individuals working to protect Indiana-native plants, especially at-risk species, through a variety of conservation activities. No matter your background, skill, or interest, you are welcome to help us conserve threatened and endangered plants in Indiana.

INPCA is part of the national The Plant Conservation Alliance (PCA), a public-private partnership among 15 federal agency Members and more than 400 non-federal Cooperators that share the same goal: to protect native plants by ensuring that native plant populations and their communities are maintained, enhanced, and restored.

What It Means to “Conserve”

Conserving rare plants involves a variety of activities, including:

  • Targeted field surveys
  • Land protection
  • Invasive species control
  • Habitat improvement (including native species thinning)
  • Propagation and ex-situ growing
  • Seed collection/storage
  • In-situ population augmentation
  • Reintroduction

Current projects include priority species conservation (see list), seed mixes for solar installations, and management plans for rare plants.
