I started growing native, Indiana perennials in 2019 for my 3 acres. I decided the following year that I would start growing perennials for sale and had a good first year with a limited inventory. One of my main objectives is to try and grow some uncommon natives and expand my inventory. I collect seeds from local plants as much as possible to preserve local genotypes. I list on my blog where seeds were harvested or the company from which I purchased seeds. Currently, I grow and sell on my property, cash only and advertise on Facebook. I hope to sell at Farmers markets in the near future.

We promote this sale annually starting in spring and going through the summer months. To assist people in finding the plants that fit their own desires we split them up into different "kits" varying from focuses on wetland varieties to those best suited for our native pollinators. Each kit comes with ten different native plants, five plugs per plant species, giving each person a total of 50 plugs of native Indiana plants. Also offered are native bare root trees and shrubs including species such as the White Oak and Elderberry. We also offer native wildflower seed packets through the sale. See website for more details.

Avoiding invasive species is not only good business in our demographics, it's the right thing to do, so we will start our business this way and commit to maintaining it this way for the duration. I plan to stock my nursery with natives from Heartland Restoration Services which is already one of your certified sources. Ninety-five percent of the trees we grow are from seed collected by hand from native tree stands in our region. This ensures consistent adaptability and growth of the tree for decades beyond our lifetime. We propagate this seed in our greenhouses and outdoor production areas until the tree or shrub reaches the desired size and health for shipment to our customers.

Wyatt Way landscapes and nursery is a native landscaping business that specializes in plants native to Indiana. We provide consultations, landscape design, installation and landscape maintenance. We also manage our own native plant nursery where we propagate over 100 species of plants native to Indiana. We do not use chemical pesticides on any of our nursery stock to prevent harm to the native species we are trying to support. Plants grown in our nursery are all derived from plant material collected from Northern Indiana to ensure local genetics as well as sufficient cold hardiness. Wyatt Way's native plants can be purchased at plant sales and events posted on our Facebook page throughout the season. Our nursery is open by appointment only.
